As with most elements of filmmaking, there are few hard and fast rules as to the “how to” of introducing or “announcing” a main character. This session looks at Fellini's designed announcing of Guido Anselmi, protagonist of his 8 1/2. Other filmmakers take other paths, while other films beg other approaches, but the opening scenes of Fellini’s film reveal a meticulous execution and articulation of considerations essential to all.
